Moving across town means a new filing.
The Manchester Town Clerk's Office at 41 Center Street files trade name certificates for $20. The form has to be notarized, and the town accepts it by mail, drop box or in person, paid by check or credit card. Trade names filed since January 16, 2006 can be searched online through the town's land record portal.
One local detail catches owners out. If the business moves to a new address within Manchester, the town asks for a dissolution of the old trade name and a new filing. Certificates now last five years under state law, so it's worth noting the renewal date in the same place you keep the books.
