Trading under an assumed name needs a certificate from the town clerk where the business is principally carried on. The statutory fee is $20, and since January 2025 a certificate lasts five years.

Hartford County is 29 towns under Connecticut law, but it has no government of its own. The General Assembly voted in 1959 to abolish county government, and on October 1, 1960 the counties' powers passed to the state. The Connecticut State Library describes the eight counties as geographical names only. Starting with the 2022 American Community Survey, Census data generally uses nine planning regions in their place.
For a business owner that means there's no county desk to register with. Local filings go to a town clerk or assessor, state filings go to the state, and the books need to support both.

Business property: the town assessor
Taxable personal property owned on October 1 is declared to the town assessor by November 1, or the next business day when that falls on a weekend. For good cause the assessor may grant up to 45 more days on a written request, and a missed filing costs a 25% penalty.
Annual report: the state
LLCs and corporations file an annual report with the Secretary of the State. An LLC files after January 1 and before April 1. The report holds no financials, and the state emails a reminder about a month ahead.
